【ボナムズオークション】ジョン・F・ケネディ使用車のリンカーンが登場

ジョン・F・ケネディ大統領を乗せた2台のリンカーン・コンチネンタルが2020年10月14日（現地時間）、オークションに登場するということで注目となっています。

オークション前の見積もりによると、ケネディ大統領が暗殺される日の朝に乗った1963年式のコンチネンタル・コンバーチブルは、最高50万ドルの値がつく可能性がある。

同大統領がワシントンDC周辺の個人的な移動に使用した防弾仕様の1960年式コンチネンタル・マークVは、最高30万ドルの値がつく可能性があると見られている。

リンカーン・コンチネンタル・コンバーチブルは、46歳のジョン・F・ケネディ大統領が1963年11月22日にテキサス州ダラスで撃たれた時に乗っていた車として有名。この車はミシガン州ディアボーンのヘンリー・フォード博物館に展示されているが、JFKが乗った別の2台のリンカーンがオークションに登場する。

2020年10月14日にボナムズ（Bonhams）で競売にかけられる予定の1963年式のコンチネンタルは暗殺の日の朝に大統領とファーストレディーが乗ったもので、大統領を安全に輸送した最後の車だ。推定30万ドルから50万ドルの落札価格が予想されている。また、大統領が愛車として使っていた1960年式コンチネンタル・マークVも同時に競売にかけられる。こちらは20万ドルから30万ドルと見られている。

John F. Kennedy Limousines Offered in New York Sale

Two historically important Lincoln limousines which carried President John F. Kennedy are to be offered in the Bonhams American Presidential Experience Auction in New York on Wednesday, 14 October.

A white 1963 Lincoln Continental Convertible “Limo One”, estimate $300,000 – 500,000, the final automobile to safely carry the President on the morning of November 22, 1963 in Fort Worth and a black 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V Executive Limousine, estimate $200,000 – 300,000, used by President Kennedy for personal journeys around the White House and Washington, will come under the hammer three weeks ahead of the US Presidential election, giving politico petrolheads the opportunity to bid for their own presidential motorcade.

Numerous photographs show the President, the First Lady and Texas Governor John Connally being driven past waving crowds in the white Lincoln, which took them from a breakfast at the Hotel Texas Ballroom in Fort Worth, where Kennedy delivered his last speech, to Carswell Air Force Base where they boarded their flight to Dallas.

The Lincoln was loaned by Bill Golightly, of Golightly Auto Sales, as an official vehicle denoted as “Fort Worth Limo” for the Kennedys’ time in Fort Worth, late day on November 21 and in the morning of November 22, 1963.

The limousine has had its engine replaced and body and paintwork restored, but most of the interior, including the red leather seats, is original.

1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V Executive Limousine
Customized by Hess and Eisenhardt for Lincoln, the Continental Mark V was truly fit for a President, featuring bullet proof doors, divider window, passenger air controls, power steering and brakes, and (uncommon for the period) two-way telephone in the back seat.

Leased to the White House for $500 a year from Ford, the limousine was used for the president’s personal journeys in Washington, DC, then returned to the public market through secondary dealerships, following President Johnson’s decision to replace the White House cars.

The Lincoln was purchased in March of 1964 by Dr. James C. Walsh, who had known the late president and who confirmed in a letter that “He [President Kennedy] did use this car for his own personal uses in contrast to the official use of the larger White House limousine.”

Much of the body has been restored, to the tune of approximately $35,000, however, the interior remains in its original condition, with beige leather seats, matching carpeting, and the aforementioned telephone.
